Only 15 minutes’ drive south of Taree is the charming village of Nabiac. Once situated directly on the highway, the village was thoughtfully by-passed some years ago but don’t let this detract you from stopping a while and enjoying all that is on offer.
Nabiac has an assortment of shops for visitors to roam through, with something to cater to all tastes. From retro furniture and clothing, to giftware, jewellery and farm produce. An independent grocery store stocks all of your basic needs, and the local bakery and butchery supply top quality produce.
Lunch at one of the local cafés will not disappoint and the Nabiac hotel is the best dinner time destination.
The nearby Wallambah River meanders around the village and is popular for boating, fishing and water-skiing. Right in town is The National Motorcycle Museum of Australia with over 800 motorcycles on display, plus a swag of memorabilia and giftware. The museum is open 364 days a year and regular Swap Meets are a great way to pick up a rare item.
The town boasts a free swimming pool, just perfect for the summer season. While rural enthusiasts are catered for with regular events at the showground and saleyards.
The last Saturday of the month brings the monthly Farmers Market, located at the showground. They are one of our regions largest and most popular markets, boasting fresh fruit and veg, bread, cakes, meats, plants, craft ware, live fowls – you name it and you’ll most probably be able to get it!
Additionally, on the third Sunday of the month nearby Krambach Markets are held at the old School of Arts hall.
A trip to one of the local wineries will have you spoiled for choice. Villa d’Esta produce Hungarian wines on a 12 acre vineyard, or Wallambah Vale and Great Lakes Paddocks are also close by. Just a little further south at Bulahdelah is the Old Inn Road Vineyard. These local growers and producers are passionate about their products and take great pleasure in sharing their wines and explaining their techniques.
Just out of town is the award winning Honeycomb Valley Farm, which is a ‘little farm with a big picture’. It’s a wonderful place to bring children as they can get up close and personal with the friendly farm animals. Plus, of course, learn all about bees and honey, and maybe purchase some farm gate produce.
